How to Increase Energy Levels

If you have been injured or suffer from a physical debilitation, it can be tough to keep your energy levels up. This is perfectly normal, as your body needs to divert resources to body regions that may not typically consume so much energy. The result of this is that, while you are healing, you can feel tired and sluggish throughout your day and find it difficult to motivate yourself to perform activities that would typically be less challenging. The good news is that there are methods to increase your energy levels in these situations that are compatible with your healing process.

Focus on What’s Important

Even if you’re injured, it is understandable that you need to get on with your life. Just because you’re in recovery does not mean that you should neglect your work or social life, but it is important to understand that by attempting to maintain the same pace you previously had, you may cause a decrease in energy levels that make everything seem a bit harder. While you’re recovering, try to work your business back up to where it was before; don’t just jump into it.

Exercise

It may sound counter-productive, as exercise consumes energy, but regularly exercising is very good for your energy levels, as it causes you to release epinephrine and norepinephrine, which contribute to alertness and make you feel energized. If you’re feeling too low-energy to exercise, start off the exercise process by taking a brisk walk every day. If you can manage this, you should try yoga, which is a great way to increase your coordination, energy and motivation, without relying on strenuous anaerobic respiration like the more intense exercises do.

Treat your Body Like a Temple

If you’re feeling low-energy, it can be tempting to look for quick stimulation via coffee, nicotine or alcohol. You should avoid smoking, as it causes insomnia, speeds up your heart rate, raises blood pressure and changes your brain-wave activity in a way that makes it harder to fall asleep. It also increases the likelihood of your sleeping shallowly and waking up during sleep. Interrupted sleep leads to low energy. You should also avoid drinking alcohol. If you drink at lunch, you will feel a heavy slump later on in the day. A few drinks in the evening are okay, as you will sleep soon anyway, but be aware that if you get intoxicated the alcohol can interrupt your sleep when it leaves your body. You can use caffeine to energize yourself, but be sure not to drink caffeinated beverages in excess or after 2PM, as this can affect your energy level the following day.

While you are suffering from low energy, you should eat small meals every few hours, as opposed to three large meals a day, which provides your body with a steady supply of nutrients. Make sure you avoid junk food and instead opt for foods with a low glycemic index. It goes without saying that you should drink lots of water, as hydration is one of the most effective fatigue-preventers that you can naturally utilize.

Receive Chiropractic Care

If you are constantly struggling with low energy levels, then it may be worth trying chiropractic manipulation. Spinal manipulation by a licensed chiropractor will realign the vertebrae of the spine and allow greater blood flow to the vital organs. This blood flow holds the essential nutrients and oxygen, which is needed for your body to thrive.
